Two payees
- DBPR: $70, the application, initial license and unlicensed-activity fees in the table above. It comes with the application, not with each attempt. The unlicensed-activity part is set by statute (§ 455.2281), not by the FREC fee rule.
- Pearson VUE: $36.75 per attempt, paid when you book. A late change or a no-show forfeits it.
- Your fingerprint vendor sets its own price for the Livescan prints; DBPR does not publish one.
- Your school sets the Course II tuition. The course is required; DBPR does not set its price.
The bill if you need one retake
One retake is a realistic plan, given the first-time pass rate. Fingerprints and tuition are left out, because their prices vary by vendor and school.

What the first-time pass rate means for the budget
DBPR reported 46% of first-time takers in January and February 2025, and 29% of repeat takers in January 2025 and 30% in February 2025. Each extra attempt costs only the $36.75 exam fee, but it also costs time, and the Course II certificate is good for only 2 years. Let it lapse and you pay tuition again. A failed course exam can be retaken only once; after that, you pay for the course again.
The cheapest route is the one you pass the first time; the practice test shows where you stand.
Costs after the exam
- Post-licensing: 60 hours before the first renewal, or the broker license becomes void. School prices vary; the hours do not.
- Renewal costs $77 every 2 years, with the $5 statutory fee included; after the first renewal, continuing education is due as well (requirements).
- Your own firm: registering a corporation, partnership or LLC as a brokerage is a separate DBPR fee under the same rule. How the firm side works: brokerage and escrow.
